Hakeem Henderson

Hakeem Henderson is a versatile performer whose repertoire spans classical to contemporary works. He has portrayed roles such as Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro, Fortunato in The Cask of Amontillado, Beppe in I Pagliacci, Spoletta in Tosca, and Big Deal in the 2019 Edinburgh International Festival’s production of West Side Story. His concert performances include Elgar’s Coronation Ode, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, and Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio. Hakeem has received numerous accolades, including 3rd Place and Audience Favorite at the Boulder Bach Festival’s 2020 World Bach Competition and the 2016 CAAPA Scholarship. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Morgan State University and a Master’s degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, supported by a Waverley Fund Scholarship. Currently a freelance performer in the D.C. metropolitan area, he was recently part of the Gerdine Young Artist Program at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Hakeem also sings popular music and his music has been featured on Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It and BBC Music Introducing in Manchester.
