Ellie Yeonjung Kim
Soprano Ellie Yeonjung Kim has garnered critical acclaim from Opera News online for her portrayal of the title role in Donizetti’s opera Rita presented by the Martina Arroyo Foundation. Based in Washington, D.C., Ellie regularly lends her talents to esteemed ensembles such as the Washington Master Chorale, Washington National Cathedral, Choral Arts, Bach in Baltimore, and Baltimore Musicales. She has appeared as a featured soloist in “Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen” BWV 32 and “Alles nur nach Gottes Willen” BWV 72 with Bach in Baltimore, as well as “Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir” BWV 29 and Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” with the Washington Bach Consort. Her vocals have also graced renowned compositions including Mozart’s Requiem, John Rutter’s Gloria, and Handel’s Messiah in the D.C. metropolitan region. Ellie’s journey into operatic roles commenced with her debut as Lucy in Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Telephone at the National Theater of Korea. Other roles include Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Sophie in Werther, and Liu in Turandot. In addition to her vocal performances, Ellie is a dedicated voice instructor, maintaining a private studio in Columbia, Maryland, and sharing her expertise as a faculty member at the Peabody Preparatory Institute in Maryland and the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. She earned her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and her Bachelor of Music in her home country of Korea.
